Today we have enormous pressure from society to be close to perfect. The mentality to polish the surface of every image we put out, the cover of every magazine, and pushing new exercise trends to be perfect is hard on us. I’ve been extremely overweight myself, and I know the feeling of being locked inside something that’s considered being wrong. I’m ambivalent around most of the subjects I create artworks around – I’m an advocate of health, improvement, and when it comes to myself, always working towards being healthier and better as a person. But the unbelievable pressure I felt from society from being overweighed was tremendously hard. I made this artwork as a symbol of the pain I felt, but also how we do almost anything to fit into the bodies society wants us to have.
